12 Islands in 12 Months: Traveling around Denmark during COVID-19 (Part 2: Autumn-Winter)

This post is the continuation of the earlier post (Spring-Summer) that can be found here https://niathenia.com/index.php/12-islands-in-12-months-traveling-around-denmark-during-covid-19-lockdown/

Please also read the previous post to see which islands in Denmark that I have visited from March 2020-February 2021. So, this is the second and final post of the series. Autumn and winter season in Denmark also hold their distinct charms and yes, there are tons of beautiful spots in Denmark, some of them are less visited. As spring and summer are always warmer, we were able to see more towns and islands during those periods of time than in the autumn and winter periods. However, I will add more winter photos here in this post for the next 2 weeks, as winter is not over yet.

The photos below are my favorite picks of our ‘traveling around Denmark‘ trips, Autumn-Winter edition. Hopefully, the COVID-19 pandemic will fade away by the vaccine and the lockdown rules in Denmark will be lifted soon. Stay safe and enjoy the photos!

Patagonian Vicuna at Ree Park, Ebeltoft
Christmas lights at gågaden, Aarhus
Wonderfully frozen lake in Vildbjerg, still leaving an oasis for the swans to swim
Albino deer spotted at the snowy Marselisborg Dyrehaven, Aarhus
Run, deer, run!
Are we in the Arctic? No, it is just the lake nearby Vestermølle Møllelaug, Skanderborg
I am always enchanted by the snow and the sunshine, especially when they are combined (Skanderborg Sø)

Hope you enjoyed seeing my photo gallery. Let me know which ones are your favorites. If you ask me, which islands I would like to revisit among the 12 that are not Danish main islands, my answer would be ‘Samsø’ and ‘Lolland’. Why?

Lolland, because I want to visit Knuthenborg Safaripark again. The last time we were there, we did not have enough time to see all. The landscape is just epic and will remind you of the real savanna! It is probably the most beautiful zoo and safari in Denmark. It is so spacious and not jam-packed as other typical zoos in Denmark. I would definitely recommend this to everyone. Maybe it can also be worth it to rent the cozy hut with the rhinos’ view.

I think Samsø is a very underrated island, and there are just so many spots that are surprisingly too beautiful. I even thought that it was too good to be true that those exist in Denmark. Some of them reminded me of Indonesia. I was just shocked as there are not that many people who talk about it, but just the famous potatoes from Samsø. There are so many amazing beaches with crystal clear water and when we were there it was nicely warm and luckily not windy. The accommodation options in Samsø are also quite affordable compared to other touristy cities in Denmark. I will make another post about Samsø another time.
